The Process of FET

Fresh placement of the embryo is from fertilized egg cells taken from the same menstrual cycle. With frozen embryo transfer, the fertilized egg cells have been harvested from a preceding cycle and placed in embryo cryopreservation. The frozen embryos are then thawed just before the transfer. In order to increase the chance of getting pregnant, you can always prepare your body to be quite friendly to such treatment. It can be achieved by doing yoga, meditation or even some acupuncture therapies.

Many doctors and researchers are concluding that FET offers the best chance for successful fertility treatment. Some research has found that the chances of getting pregnant through the use of frozen embryo transfer is 30% greater than other means of fertility transfer. The reason for the higher success rate is that several cycles of fertilize egg cells are used rather than results of one cycle. This obviously offers better chances for success.

Baby’s Health Condition

Of course, pregnancy is only half the equation. Parent’s ultimate goal is to have healthy children. Concerns regarding frozen embryo transfer have disappeared overtime as the stats regarding this form of transfer speak for themselves. By all indications, there is no more risk of birth defects or other similar issues by having babies using this method than with other transfer methods or natural births.

Baby Weight Concerns

Research has also found interesting facts about baby weight and frozen embryo transfer. Low birth weight is a problem seen in natural, or transfer births alike, but the FET seems to offer an edge. When comparing the birth weight and height of frozen embryo transfer babies to fresh transfer babies it has found that the former do better in both.

Frozen Embryo Transfer Procedure

The treatment procedure is performed in either a hospital or clinic. A speculum is placed in the vagina to visualize the cervix. Saline solution is used to cleanse the cervix and a transfer catheter is loaded with embryos. Because this involves genetic material, the identity is confirmed when handed over to the transfer technician. The frozen embryo transfer itself is safe for the woman involved, and relatively painless. Hormonal drugs are used in order to make the womb prepared for the transfer. The cost of frozen embryo transfer usually starts at over two thousand dollars.
